Kerouartz Castle

Why take advantage?

The present château was built between 1580 and 1602. Today, it is a private monument not open to the public. From the ancient Roman road, a wide avenue of over one kilometer leads to the château. The outer gate with its cavalier and pedestrian doors is topped by machicolations and defended by two turrets pierced by a double battery of embrasures. The main building, built with great dignity in large units, dates from the early 17th century (1602). On the right, a square tower with a domed roof and broken corners protrudes. Another round tower, also domed and fitted with loopholes, stands at the northern corner of the rear façade. The courtyard features a fountain with a lead aedicule and a large trough with notched corners for jugs and buckets. Coat of arms: "Argent, a wheel of sable between three crosses of the same".
The chapel at Château de Kerouartz is not mentioned in old deeds and does not appear to be of ancient construction, although it was built using materials from buildings that have fallen into ruin.
The château is not open to visitors, except during exhibitions; only the grounds outside the château are accessible and open to the public.
